Abandonment by legal husband who has taken my children

by Desiree Osio Scott / Posted 06/07/2010 / Updated 20/07/2010

I am currently in Dubai where I have come to follow my husband who is working in Dubai and has taken my children from me in the Philippines. I am a Philippines national and have gained work in Dubai in an attempt to both seek divorce from my husband and get to see my children (2) who I have not seen for a number of years. My husband will not give me proper access to my children even now I am in Dubai and continues to tell me to return to Philippines before he will deal with me. I have applied to the courts in Dubai for assistance and have had a couple of court sittings but now feel that the weight of the law in as Islamic law country will go against me. I have also been to the Philippines embassy for support in recent days. I do not have money for a lawyer but have friends who are assisting me to gain knowledge of my rights under international law. Please help me gain my legal rights to both a fair and equitable settlement to my legal marriage and also a workable process for access to my children. It is a mothers worst nightmare to not have access to her children who have been brainwashed by their father against me. He works as a senior management person in a major international company and is just playing with me - believing I do not have the resources, knowledge or financial capability to gain justice. Any advice will be welcomed. Am I best to drop proceedings in Dubai and attempt to get the case heard under British law in his native Scotland?
