**Won child abdustion case- now stand criminal charges??**Greece

by Molly / Posted 06/10/2011 / Updated 26/06/2012

Hi everyone.
Just wondering if anyone can offer any advice.
I took my children from Greece in 2007. The father took out Child abduction charges against me. The case was heard in the Uk court and I won. He took it to appeal in the strand and i won. He took it again to the greek courts and I won.
Now 4 years later I have received papers saying I am to stand trial in the criminal court of greece next week. The children have access to their fatehr when he visits them in the uk and speak with him 2-3 times a week on the phone so there is no case that i am refusing contact. Does anybody know what this is about? I have found a pdf online saying parents can face prison for up to 1 year for the crim of CA. But this is 4 years later so why has it come up now? The children are now 15 and 4 months and the other almost 17.
does anyone have any advice or have they been in this situation??
help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks.

Molly,
Whilst you have been advised that the Greek authorities are to hold a criminal case against you please remember that there is no legal obligation whatsoever for you to return to Greece or to assist them in their investigation. However, should the courts find the case proved against you they could, and its a very small could, make a formal request for your extradition back to Greece. Also, you would probably have difficulty in ever trying to visit the country again as you would be likely to be arrested upon entry.
I would suggest you seek some advice from people experienced in dealing with such matters about what you could do and what you should not do. Reunite should be able to point you in the direction of the right people.
