Dual national?

by Marie / Posted 01/08/2013 / Updated 04/09/2013

Hello there, I wondered if anyone could clarify this for me. Is my child automatically a dual national if his father is from abroad, I thought he was just British as he was born here and I am British?

Many thanks,

M

In principle it depends by the other nation law. Usually the child can take the double nationality up to 18 years old. In some cases he she can keep on having the double nationality after 18 years old, in other cases he/she has to choose. If one parent is from another state the child can take his/her nationality upon the request of parents. In some cases (e.g. many Eastern Europe Countries) it is enough the request of one parent (the one having that nationality) without the Agreement or any information sent to the other parent.
