French Lawyer or Do It Myself, advice please

by Andrew / Posted 22/10/2015 / Updated 30/10/2015

My ex-partner up and left one day without any warning and moved to France with my son. It was 5 months ago and I have been fighting to get him back since then. I am at the point where the case will be heard in a French court shortly and I am struggling to decide whether I should get a Lawyer (quoted 3.6k) or to represent myself.
Has anybody got experience of child abduction cases in a French Court? What did you do? What was the outcome.
I dont speak French so Id need a translator which isnt an issue, but I dont want to feel that Im getting railroaded in Court. However, I am reluctant to put myself in that amount of debt if it can be avoided.

Any advice would be much appreciated as I really need to make my mind up asap.
