The reunite national awareness campaign began on the 9th July with the launch of the new reunite website, and continues throughout the year, ending on the 4th December with our annual balloon launch.
During the intervening months we will be undertaking a number of initiatives to raise the profile of international child abduction within the United Kingdom.
We will be promoting the subject of international parental child abduction and the work of reunite with a poster campaign. Posters will be distributed and displayed within courts, non-governmental organisations, citizens advice bureaus and other agencies working within the area of protection of children.
August will see us working with the national press to highlight individual cases, and to discuss the effects that international parental child abduction can have on children and families.
Part of the campaign will focus on highlighting the roles of the Ministry of Justice and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in cases of parental child abduction, the knowledge and expertise they offer, and the working reciprocal relationship they have with reunite.
At the end of October we are very pleased to be holding, in partnership with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, a seminar for leaders of the Islamic community looking at how we can prevent abduction to Non-Hague states.
The awareness campaign will end with the holding of our annual balloon launch on the 4th December. This event has been held for a number of years now, and offers parents and families an opportunity to remember those children who will not be at home at Christmas and to rejoice for those children who have been returned home during the year.
