On Saturday 17th October a team of staff and volunteers from reunite, together with friends of the charity Simon Craddock of Brethertons solicitors and David and Helen Chaplain of Family Law Week, completed the 17 mile circular route of Rutland Water Reservoir in a bid to raise money for the charity.

The day was a great success with all 11 members of the team completing the 17 mile route.  The forecast for the day was slightly cloudy, but mainly bright.  However, the Great British weather didn´t fail to disappoint by being rather grayer and colder than predicted.  In fact the sharp cold wind blowing off the South shore of the reservoir meant that lunch ended up being a rather chilly affair, with some members of the team (you know who you are) feeling compelled to try warming their bones with a spot of alcohol from the Normanton Park Hotel.

We started the walk about a mile from the village of Eggleton, and followed the path anti-clockwise around the reservoir.  This meant that the last couple of miles were spent traipsing down the hill along the North shore of the reservoir, from Barnsdale towards Oakham.  At a number of points along this final stretch we began to feel that someone was playing a very mean trick on us, and that in fact this was a magical road that was never ending! (well that´s certainly how it felt anyway).  There was also a minor medical emergency half way along the road for one of our intrepid ramblers, but a Mars bar was administered, and they were soon fighting fit again.  Of course the end did eventually come into view, and what had been an enjoyable, but hard day, ended with a real sense of achievement.

We still need your help to achieve our goal of £3000.  So for those of you who have been waiting to see if we could actually do it before you dug deep and donated whatever you can - we did it!  And we have the aching muscles and blisters to prove it :-)  So if you can then please visit our JustGiving donation page where you can make a secure online donation.  And to those of you who have already donated - a very big thank you!
